Barbican and the Old Warsaw City Walls

The Barbican, part of the former defensive walls of the Old Town, is one of the most recognizable symbols of Warsaw. In addition to walking along the defensive walls, visitors can see the exhibition The Barbican and the Old Warsaw City Walls. A Story of a Historic Monument inside.
The exhibition tells the fascinating story of the loss and rediscovery of Warsaw’s medieval defensive walls, which were forgotten and concealed for centuries before being brought back into the city’s memory in the 20th century. It showcases the changing fate of the fortifications — from their crucial military role, through a period of neglect, to contemporary efforts at reconstruction and preservation.
If you’re planning a weekend walk through the Old Town, be sure to follow the walking route: The Secrets of the Barbican and the City Walls.
